Three Years in Dallas: Movement, Meaning, and the People Who Changed Me
Three years ago, I arrived in Dallas chasing fitness, discipline, and a fresh start. What I didn’t expect was how deeply this city would reshape me—not just physically, but emotionally, socially, and spiritually. Through sport, sweat, and nature, I found my rhythm. Through community, I found my voice.
It started with a reunion.
Pablo and I met as kids back in school, and somehow, life brought us both to Dallas. Reconnecting with him felt like finding a piece of home in a new city. Through him, I met Carlos and his family, Alexis and his family, Rick, Yisus, and el Mae—each one adding their own energy, humor, and heart to my journey. That first circle reminded me that roots can stretch across time and geography.
Then came pickleball—and everything changed.
Liza, the incredible leader behind the Meetup group at Wagon Wheel, opened the door to a whole new world. Through her community, I met Donnie Lewis—one of my brothers in Dallas, a man whose kindness and strength inspire me daily. Vesna, Mary, Jan, Mike, Sandra, Vinod, Ram, AJ, Tejas, Charish, Tushar, Alex (one of my favorite people in DFW), and Aixa (sweet, kind, and one of my favorite PB and running partners)—each of them brought something unique to the court and to my life.
From the Meetup courts to deeper connections, Adriana entered my world like a gift from the universe. Her strength and passion are magnetic, and I admire her deeply. She introduced me to the Ladies Pickleball Group—Gaby, Carmen, Rocío, Patrizia (my coffee and brunch friend, and the source of a brilliant idea I’ll share soon), Inma, and Belem (I admire you). These women hold a piece of my heart, each one a reminder of how sport can build sisterhood.
At Fretz Tennis Center, the tribe kept growing. Laura B, Mindy, Karen (what a strong girl), and now Rachel (lazy girl, and cute tomato) and Anja—we’ve just started playing, and already I feel the spark of something special unfolding. Thank you for the rallies, the laughs, and the moments that make me feel alive.
And then came the unexpected joys.
Cate—scoring a point against a pickleball pro with you was legendary. Ashley and Andrew, aka “Red Chilli Pepper”—you made me feel like part of your family, and I’ll never forget that. And finally, my Dallas family: Alison, Jimmy, Memito, and Cassandra. You’ve given me so many great moments, so much laughter, and a sense of belonging that runs deep.
And then there’s the tribe that pushed me physically and mentally—Orange Theory Fitness.
It all started with Cheyenna and Meagan, two incredible women who pulled me into this “cult” with contagious energy and unwavering belief in my potential. They didn’t just get me through workouts—they pushed me toward my best version. Meagan was the one who made me believe I could return to half marathons, and that spark still burns.
Then came Nick and Diana, followed by Hailey—I miss you all. You may have left OTF, but your impact shows up in every class I take.
Now, it’s Tiffany who’s helping me crush my PRs—thank you for the fire. And Liz—now I know why everyone loves you. You’re kind, funny, and full of light. Give me a hug next time, okay?
Gaby, part of the staff but also a workout partner when we sync up—we don’t hit every class together, but when we do, it’s intentional. We book together, we push each other, and it always feels like a win. Your energy is steady and strong, and I’m grateful for those shared sessions.
Lauren—what a gem. You’re not just a fun friend, you’re the kind of person who makes the room brighter. I love our chats, your energy, and the way you make fitness feel like a celebration.
And finally, the heart of OTF for me: Tahiera. No words can express my gratitude. You’re exceptional. Keep doing what you do—you make people believe in themselves.
And now, a quiet truth.
Love hasn’t shown up in the last three years—not in the way I’ve hoped. But I believe she’s out there. Someone special. Maybe a hidden gem waiting to be discovered in the most unexpected way. When that moment comes, I’ll be ready. Ready to build the best relationship I’ve ever had. One rooted in honesty, joy, and the kind of connection that feels like home.
Dallas gave me movement. My people gave me meaning. And love—well, it’s on its way.
